Question 1

How do I make a GIF from pictures?

Accepted Answer

Add your images, put them in order with the arrow buttons, and set the time per frame, width and shape. Watch the live preview, then click “Create GIF” and download it. The GIF is encoded in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Question 2

What frame speed should I use?

Accepted Answer

Around 500 ms per frame (2 frames per second) suits a slideshow, and 100 ms (10 frames per second) looks like smooth motion. 20 ms is the fastest speed browsers show reliably; most browsers slow shorter delays down to 100 ms.

Question 3

How can I make my GIF file smaller?

Accepted Answer

Use a smaller width, fewer frames or fewer colors, and try turning off dithering, which helps flat areas compress better. Each frame gets its own palette of up to 256 colors, and the file size is shown after the GIF is created.

Question 4

Why do photos look grainy or banded in a GIF?

Accepted Answer

A GIF frame can only use 256 colors. Dithering mixes dots of the available colors to imitate smooth gradients: it looks smoother but adds fine grain. Without it, skies and shadows can show visible bands.

Question 5

Does the GIF loop, and can I mix image sizes?

Accepted Answer

It loops forever by default; untick “Loop forever” to play it once. Images with a different shape are either fitted with a border in your chosen color or cropped to fill the frame. You can add up to 150 frames.
